Back to basics: all the tools you need.
I'm known for talking a lot about the fundamentals of vocal technique. They're essential to good singing, yet so easily overlooked.
It's often the small things that make the biggest difference. Understanding how posture, airflow, onset, support and resonance work together gives us the tools to recognise difficulties, make useful adjustments and develop greater vocal freedom.
Join me for an enjoyable, practical exploration of the essentials of classical singing technique. We'll observe, discuss and investigate the things that really matter, bringing everything back to the voice and the music.
Furthering the Learning Curve
This workshop day will take place at Church Farmhouse in Winsham, Somerset, on Wednesday 20 January 2027, during The Voice School's January week of vocal study.
Open to singers beyond Virtually Vocalise members, the day offers an opportunity to explore the fundamentals of classical singing technique in an intimate, practical setting.
With a maximum of five participating singers, we'll investigate individual vocal technique issues, drawing on observation, discussion and chosen repertoire to deepen our understanding of how the voice works.
A full day of singing, listening, sharing discoveries and putting the essential tools of vocal technique into practice, with a break for lunch.
An opportunity to revisit the fundamentals, make new discoveries and take your singing forward.
See you inside ...
Once your place on the workshop has been confirmed, you'll be invited to join a dedicated Dropbox folder for the event, where you can share your proposed repertoire, music and any backing tracks.
I'll share the practical arrangements for the day in due course, so that everyone arrives knowing what to expect.
This is a collaborative learning experience, shaped by the singers taking part, with plenty of opportunity for observation, discussion and individual discovery.
"It's essential to work on something you're deeply interested in. Interest will drive you to work harder than mere diligence ever could. The three most powerful motives are curiosity, delight, and the desire to do something impressive. Sometimes they converge, and that combination is the most powerful of all."
