The process of learning to sing is never quite the same for any two people, but there are patterns that can guide us. What feels like a tangle of issues – range, breathing, tension, confidence – can often be eased with small, practical steps and the right kind of encouragement.
At The Voice School, we work gradually. The building blocks of technique are allowed to support one another over time. As they settle, your musical confidence grows, and the voice becomes more responsive, expressive, and sustainable.
I care deeply about creating an online learning environment that feels real and human – where singers can connect, exchange ideas, and feel supported by one another. Exploring your voice can feel vulnerable at times, but it can also be deeply satisfying. Here, you will find clear explanations, thoughtful guidance, and space to grow at a realistic pace.

At the centre of The Voice School is Virtually Vocalise, my weekly online studio for adult classical singers.
It is designed to fit alongside real life. The sessions offer clear guidance and shared learning, but much of the progress happens in your own time, with steady support from me. You are not expected to overhaul your routine overnight.
There are different ways to take part. Some singers work very actively; others begin by listening and absorbing. Over time, the structure becomes familiar and manageable.
Because the studio runs on a monthly basis, the cost is spread evenly, and the learning builds gradually rather than feeling intense or short-lived.
For most singers, this is the most effective and sustainable place to begin.
I do offer one-to-one coaching, but usually for singers who are already connected with The Voice School in some way.
Over time, I have found that individual sessions are far more fruitful when they build on shared foundations rather than starting from scratch. When a singer already understands the technical framework and expectations, the work can go deeper more quickly. It also ensures that your investment feels worthwhile.
For this reason, many singers begin within Virtually Vocalise or at an in-person event before moving into individual coaching.
That said, I do occasionally offer consultations to singers who would like to explore a particular issue or take stock of their voice before deciding on next steps. These are focused, thoughtful conversations rather than open-ended lessons.
Consultation options:
30-minute consultation (£53): A chance to take stock of your voice, especially if you are just starting out. You send me a short recording in advance, and together we listen, reflect, and explore what is possible. A thoughtful, pressure-free way to begin your vocal journey.
45-minute vocal care session (£65): For times when something has changed, or your voice feels tired, strained, or unfamiliar. This is a gentle, supportive space to understand what is happening and find the first steps back to comfort.
If you would like to arrange a consultation, please write to me at gillian@littlesoprano.co.uk. I will then be in touch to share the practical details and to find a mutually convenient time.
If you are not sure yet about lessons but would like to get to know me and my approach more closely, you might enjoy my Substack, The Classical Singer’s Path. It is a fairly new avenue I am investing in, and I am using it to share more about my life as a singer and to open up conversations about the things singers think about. If you are curious, it can be a gentler way to connect with me and follow along as The Voice School continues to grow.
You can also visit The Voice School Portal, where I share an overview and calendar for the current academic year. It is the simplest place to see what is happening now and how to take part.
Think of it as the notice board at the entrance to The Voice School. It shows upcoming in-person events, the current term focus, monthly vocal technique themes, and other features that shape our shared work across the year.
If you are curious, begin there. Browse, read, listen, and see what draws your attention. When something feels right, just step in.
