The Singer’s Journey
Learning by doing.
Come and spend a full, immersive day with me, exploring three essential threads in the singing life:
-
Delving into thoughtful, well-chosen repertoire
-
Applying vocal technique in a way that truly serves the voice
-
Discovering Meraki — that spark of individuality brought to performance
The day is gently shaped around the theme of Past, Present & Future. This is a very much a learning-by-doing experience: practical, encouraging, and tailored to where each singer is right now.Â
“It’s a journey that takes us through vulnerable and humble moments as we continually review and tweak our approaches to learning—but what we get from this search is truly freeing and exciting.”
— Sophie, Voice-Works participant
How many songs should each singer bring?
The Singer’s Journey is not about volume of repertoire. It’s about the space to listen, reflect, and reconnect with the singer within, without the pressure of perfection. Each singer has been invited to prepare up to three contrasting pieces — works that reflect their current interests, growing technique, and where their musical instincts are leading them next. We'll explore each one in turn, with space to consider technical questions, stylistic choices, and that all-important Meraki: a personal connection to the music.
Important Note:Â Applications for the September workshops close on 1st August.

Led by Gillian Gingell Wormley
Gillian is a classical soprano, recitalist, and voice teacher whose lifelong passion for singing has shaped a career that is both rich and deeply rooted. Her work has encompassed oratorio, recital, and stage — including commissioned appearances at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe — and she has nurtured her artistry alongside the evolving rhythms of family life, bringing warmth, depth, and continuity to everything she leads.
She has had the privilege of learning from and performing with many inspiring colleagues, most notably her accompanist and long-time vocal coach, David Harper.
Gillian is the creative force behind The Voice School, Little Soprano, and The Classical Singer’s Path on Substack. She offers adult classical singers the chance to grow their voices in a sustainable, artistically connected way. Her teaching is rooted in lived musical experience and shaped by a deep love of family life, which brings rhythm and equilibrium to her days. Whether tending her garden, spending time with her grandchildren, or leading a masterclass, Gillian brings a spirit of warmth, clarity, and care to everything she does.

Observers are most welcome! Â
For those who have been considering rekindling their love of singing but aren’t quite ready to dive in, or even for seasoned singers looking to refine their craft, observing a class is an invaluable step.
It’s an opportunity to take in new ideas, to watch the practical application of vocal technique, and to gain the kind of nuanced understanding that can be transformative when you’re ready to step forward yourself.
Observers will witness a carefully balanced mix of technical exploration, individual coaching, and group work—all designed to create an environment where participants and listeners can develop fresh insights.Â
Join us for a session of your choice - or, why not make a day of it?
We would love to see you!

Sue Lewey
For me, this workshop reinforced the notion that only I have the ultimate power to make good repertoire choices, and, to obtain and use the technical and musicianship skills to sing and perform those choices. The format of the workshop was excellent.

Sophie Bierens de Haan
Being a stickler for routines and having a preference for knowing what we do when in life, the schedule suited me down to the ground. The day was intense ... with in-depth discussions, but the next day I felt very strongly motivated to reflect on what I've learned.
See you inside ...
Once you've signed up/opted in for the workshop day, I'll be in touch with you personally, to gather your thoughts and give you all the logistical details. It will be a day where we collaborate to create a day that serves us as singers in a positive, supportive way.
"It's essential to work on something you're deeply interested in. Interest will drive you to work harder than mere diligence ever could. The three most powerful motives are curiosity, delight, and the desire to do something impressive. Sometimes they converge, and that combination is the most powerful of all."
